No decision on Club Med until after the election, says Webb
A decision on who will develop the closed Club Med site in St. George's will not be made until after the election, Tourism Minister Renee Webb said yesterday.
Two consortiums have been short-listed and a Cabinet subcommittee has asked them to do presentations and provide more information.
One group, Renaissance, made a presentation last week, but the other, SteppingRock, was not able to do so, said Ms Webb.
And there were no other mutually convenient dates to make the presentation before the July 24 poll, said the minister.
SteppingRock, which is based in Dallas, Texas, has partnered with Bermudian Patrick Bean, and plans to build a 110 bedroom hotel, 60 homes and a rehabilitation centre for injured sportsmen and drug addicts.
The Renaissance application includes Bermudian and overseas partners. The Quorum Group, which is based in Toronto, New York and Bermuda is part of the consortium.
Quorum are fund managers, who specialise in information technology and real estate fund management.
Ms Webb told The Royal Gazette: “The committee made a recommendation to open up a conversation with two developers and where we want further information and presentations.
“We've had one presentation and we are waiting to have a presentation from the second group. Their people were travelling so they could not make it last week.
“It could be before the election or after the election, it doesn't make any difference to me, it's whatever is convenient, but given the dates they gave, it will be after the election.”
