Nomination day fizzles with no takers for councillor post

No one nominated themselves for the position of common councillor for the Corporation of Hamilton at City Hall yesterday.

As a result, the position of councillor will have to be decided by an ?extraordinary municipal election?, returning officer Justin Williams said.

Mr. Williams added that when no one nominated themselves elections must be held in a month or two.

George Grundmuller was elected as a common councillor last year.

Mr. Grundmuller said yesterday that one possible reason as to why no one nominated themselves this year was that ?today people are very busy?.

Nominees have to be owners of shops in Hamilton or a company CEO.

?Most people are sitting on so many boards and extracurricular work. It might be difficult to take another one on... You still have to run a business,? he said.
