Organisers seek opening act for John Legend

One lucky Bermudian musician or ensemble will soon have a once in a lifetime to chance to be the opening act at the John Legend concert on July 19 at National Stadium.

Moongate Productions Ltd. is holding an open audition call to find the opening act for the R&B sensation.

The open audition will take place on Saturday, July 9 at the Bermuda College Blue Room, New Hall N113 beginning at 9 a.m.

Anyone interested in auditioning must be Bermudian and at least 16 years old.

All genres of music are eligible.

Equipment will not be provided but if musicians wish to bring their own instruments they may.

Original songs are preferred but not required.

Singer John Legend, who won BET?s new artist award at the BET awards on Tuesday night, said in a Press release that he is keen for his upcoming Island gig.

?I am looking forward to my show in Bermuda and to hear for myself some of the Island?s talented performers,? he said in the release.

The winner of the contest will be awarded $500 in addition to the 30-minute opening spot for the concert.

The winner will be announced live on Hott 107.5 on Monday, July 11 at 8 a.m.

?We decided to offer local musicians the chance to open for John Legend as it is a great way to add Bermudian flavour to the evening and compliment what will already be amazing evening of music,? said Moongate Productions? Christina Smart. ?Plus, it will also give the winning musician(s) a chance to showcase their talents in front of an award winning artist.
