Painter dies after fall from a ladder

A 63-year-old housepainter fell 12 feet from a ladder while hanging blinds yesterday morning and died in hospital after sustaining serious head injuries.

By presstime last night Police had not released the man?s name because his next of kin had not been notified.

Chesley Wales ? who lives upstairs of Godet & Young Limited on Wellington Street, St. George?s ? phoned 911 after he heard a noise while drinking his morning coffee around 7.25 a.m.

?I heard a thump,? Mr. Wales said. ?I went to my bedroom window and looked out and saw someone on the ground and then I called 911.?

A Godet & Young employee said the man had already hung blinds around half of the building and was putting shutters up yesterday morning when he fell and died.

?It appears that the victim, a 63 year old St. George?s man, fell approximately 12-feet from a ladder to the ground, sustaining head injuries,? Police said.
