Pair called to the Bar

The courtroom was overflowing with family and friends yesterday as Brian Myrie and Takiyah Burgess were called to the Bermuda Bar.

Mr. Myrie completed his year-long pupilage at Lynda Milligan-Whyte & Associates and will now be practising corporate law at the firm. Mr. Myrie was born in Britain and moved to Bermuda via marriage to Bermudian Jackie Cunningham in 1997.

?I know I did not get here alone,? said Mr. Myrie, who thanked his parents back home in England for their support.

Mr. Myrie also thanked his wife for her support and fabulous cooking.

?She has been with me since the beginning of this journey,? said Mr. Myrie.

Ms Burgess will be taking on an associate position at Smith & Co. after doing her pupilage there with Michael Smith. She intends to practice litigation.

Mr. Smith described Ms Burgess as charmingly blunt, persistent and enthusiastic.

?If she wants your attention ? she is determine to get it,? he said. ?She has a very special way of dealing with clients ? she wins their affection. I am proud to have her as a member of our firm,? said Mr. Smith.
