Pair deny kidnapping charges

A pair of young men denied charges of kidnapping another man in order to extort money from him and his family, robbing him and causing him grievous bodily harm in Supreme Court yesterday.

The co-accused ? David Jahwell Cox, 24, of Orchard Grove, Pembroke, and Antoine Hubert Anderson, 26, of Old Mary?s Lane, St. George?s ? both denied the four charges of kidnapping, grievous bodily harm, robbery and demanding property with menace and intent to steal to Tarik Williams on or about August 27, 2004.

Cox was remanded until January 4, when he and his co-accused will appear for mention while Anderson?s bail was extended.

Cox?s lawyer is Peter Farge while Anderson is represented by Mark Pettingill.

Sex predator and fired cop, John (Chalkie) White faces up to 30 years in prison tomorrow as his sentencing date was fixed during yesterday?s arraignments session.

On October 4, White was found guilty of all charges against him which included buggery, attempted buggery and sexual exploitation ? relating to three underage victims ? in Smith?s Parish and St. George?s between 1996 and 2001.

In other new matters, Chris Anderson, 27, of Warwick, denied intending to do grievous bodily harm to Maxwell Sean Maybury using an offensive weapon ? a hammer ? on May 10 in Paget.

He also pleaded not guilty to assaulting two Police officers, Carol Smith and Gerald Simons, on the same date. His bail was extended until his next mention date on January 4, 2005.

Meyrick Desmond Patrick, 45, of Kentworth Court, Birmingham, pleaded not guilty to importing and possessing heroin intended for supply on June 24. He was remanded until January 4 for mention.

Joseph Moniz Lima, 39, of no fixed abode, denied two charges of robbery and assault.

Lima was charged with robbing Taberry Amaral of his motorcar and his wallet on March 1.

He also denied robbing Randolph Fubler on May 31 using personal violence and assaulting Mr. Fubler on the same day. His trial date was fixed for February 21.

Stanley Eugene Ronald Davis, 38, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to six counts of burglary from December 2003 to June 2004. The total value of the items he stole was $3,037.

Davis was remanded until December 1, when his sentencing date will be fixed.

Michael Ruben DeSilva, 24, of Wentworth Lane, Sandys, pleaded guilty to five counts of stealing from June 21 to July 4, 2004.

He also pleaded guilty to assault, while intending to rob and armed with an offensive weapon, on June 26.

Chief Justice Ground ordered BARC and Social Inquiry reports be done pre-sentencing.

DeSilva was remanded until December 1 for a sentencing date to be fixed.

Victoria Cashmay White, 40, pleaded guilty to importing cocaine into Bermuda on February 29, 2004. She pleaded not guilty to possessing cocaine intended for supply on the same day.

White will be sentenced on December 1.

Shane Edmund Todd, 29, of no fixed abode, was remanded for mention until December 1.

Troy Oneil Robinson, 35, of Anchorage Lane, St. George?s pleaded guilty to stealing Erica Wills? motorcar on August 22. Robinson had no lawyer. The Chief Justice ordered BARC and Social Inquiry reports for Robinson.
