Parliament would have to OK daylight savings extension

Bermuda may be forced to change the law to extend daylight savings time to follow a recent change in the US Congress. The US Congress recently signed off on a provision to extend daylight time hours by two months as part of the Energy Policy Bill 2005. The proposed day to turn the clocks back or forward will arrive one month early, on the first weekend in March and end on the last weekend in November. Currently daylight savings in Bermuda starts on the first Sunday in April ? when the clocks go forward an hour ? and lasts until the final Sunday of October, when they go back an hour.

A Bermuda Government spokeswoman said daylight savings in Bermuda is covered by the Bermuda Daylight Savings Time Act. ?The Act will have to be changed and would have to go before Parliament,? she said. MPs, however, return to work in early November, after the time change.
