Perot to build Longtail nests
US Presidential candidate and Texas computer tycoon Ross Perot was given planning permission this week to protect the shoreline of his Tucker?s Town home ? provided he also installs artificial Longtail nests.
Mr. Perot applied for final Planning permission for shore protection and underpinning work following Hurricane Fabian damage at No. 38, Tucker?s Town Road, St. George?s.
However, Mr. Perot may only start construction after a building permit was obtained and artificial Longtail nests were installed in consultation with Government Conservation Officer Jeremy Madeiros.
?The Board wish to advise that the artificial Longtail nests may be obtained from the Bermuda Audubon Society and should be reserved as soon as possible,? the DAB said.
The artificial nests ? or Igloo nests ? are in common use around the Island to encourage Longtails to breed after natural cliff hollows became increasingly rare due to cliff destruction after Hurricane Fabian.
