Pile-up driver arrested

Police attended a three-car pile-up outside the Paraquet Restaurant on Sunday afternoon when a man suspected of impaired driving rear-ended two cars.

Police were called to the scene around 5.35 p.m. on Sunday where it appeared all three cars were travelling east on South Road with the taxi in front.

The taxi came to a stop outside the restaurant and the first car behind it, a Kia Pride, also stopped. The second, however, a Renault Clio, did not. The Clio collided with the Kia, ramming it into the taxi.

Two female passengers in the taxi, visitors to the Island, received minor injuries but left before Police arrived. No other injuries were reported.

The driver of the Clio, a 21-year old Pembroke man, was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. Inquiries are underway.
