Pizza man claims he failed to deliver
A pizza delivery man was placed under a strict curfew yesterday after admitting that he made sexual suggestions to a woman in the street before unzipping his trousers.
Robert Phillips, 34, of St. George's, was charged with intruding on the privacy of a woman, and, in so doing, offending her in December last year.
Magistrates Court heard how he was on Water Street in St. George's when he walked past the woman.
Crown counsel Shakira Dill said he asked her if she wanted to take advantage of him from the waist down, before unzipping his trousers.
She added: "He had his hand inside his pants and attempted to take something out."
But Phillips said he did not fully understand the charge.
He said: "I zipped down, but nothing came out. There was something there, but nothing came out. I did not say from the waist down. What I said was much shorter than that. I can't remember the words."
Ms Dill said Roberts was arrested and taken to St. George's Police Station, where he had been released earlier that same day for a similar offence.
She said the accused told Police he was drunk, and admitted grabbing his crotch while talking to the woman, but said he had not exposed himself.
Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves said to Roberts: "It seems like something you wanted to show her was much shorter. All she saw was the zip. What if the woman was Lorraine Bobbit? Cool down, man - walking about flashing?"
And Roberts responded: "But I did not pull it out, though."
Ms Dill told the court that the maximum sentence for the charge was 12 months in prison.
Mr. Greaves released Roberts on $1,000 bail, with one surety, and set a curfew of between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. each day.
He ordered social and psychiatric reports on the accused, and adjourned the matter until May 28.
