Photo by Glenn Tucker.Crash:At around 6.30 p.m. yesterday this car appeared to strike a car on East Broadway. The female driver was conveyed to KEMH. Traffic was seriously backed up coming into Hamilton as the westbound lane was closed until 7.20 p.m.

Police are on the lookout for a black truck seen speeding away from the scene of a three-vehicle collision on East Broadway last night.

Spokesman Dwayne Caines said last night Police are actively searching for the truck and driver.

?Police are in the process of finding the owner and the driver of the vehicle,? Mr. Caines said. ?Police will make further updates as the situation progresses.?

He said there was no definitive description of the driver but some bystanders said he was a white man.

Police last night launched an appeal for anyone with information or witnesses to call 295-0011.

An employee at the East Broadway Shell petrol station said the female driver of a white car driving out of Hamilton appeared to hit a truck heading into Hamilton.

?A lady hit a truck. I heard a screech, then I heard a bang and the sound of acceleration,? he said. ?I saw the lady spin out across the street. A black truck with a white guy driving sped off into town. It looked like he did not feel it. She hit the side of the truck.?

And a Works and Engineering employee removing traffic cones that separate East Broadway into one westbound lane at around 6.20 p.m. said at least two small children were in the white car which was extensively damaged in the collision.

?There was a seven-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl in the car,? he said.

Lt. Dana Lovell of the Bermuda Fire Service said a woman was removed from the car but no special tools were required.

Although no one in the white car was believed to be seriously hurt, the driver was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, Police said.

A red car was damaged as the white car spun into the east-bound lane of East Broadway.

The driver of the red car appeared to be uninjured at the scene but did not want to comment.

Traffic coming into Hamilton was completely closed until around 7.20 p.m. when Police reopened one lane.

?The traffic was backed up all the way up the hill into town,? a motorist said. ?There was a girl with a neck brace on and firemen were trying to get her out of the car.?
