Premier and Opposition leader pave the way
The St. George's Foundation presented Premier Jennifer Smith and Opposition Leader Grant Gibbons with a gift set yesterday to kick off the organisation's Christmas season fundraising campaign.
The `Renovation' gift sets consist of a 2002 calendar entitled `Treasures of St. George's' and a paving brick that is being used in the restoration of Shinbone Alley.
The name of each brick recipient will be recorded in the planned World Heritage Centre in St. George's.
Capital Campaign chairman, Scott Hunter, said: "These Christmas gift sets, designed by the Foundation, offer everyone an opportunity to support St. George's specifically and Bermuda in general this holiday season.
"We are hoping that the gift sets will be popular for friends, family and business acquaintances overseas as well as on Island. Giving a paving brick is a great way of making someone part the effort to preserve St. George's," he added.
Similar gift sets are being offered by the St. George's Foundation as part of their commitment to "bring history to life" and also to support the `Buy Bermuda campaign that local stores are sponsoring.
A St. George's Foundation spokesman said: "The purchase of a paving brick is an actual opportunity to buy a piece of Bermuda."
The sets range from $12 to $75.
