Premier salutes Regiment?s work in Grenada

Premier Alex Scott joined soldiers of the Bermuda Regiment for the re-opening of the storm-torn St. David's Primary School in Grenada.

Mr. Scott and Labour and Home Affairs Minister Randy Horton congratulated the Regiment on their hard work in restoring the school after it was damaged in Hurricane Ivan.

"The people of this region feel very strongly about what you have done for them," Mr. Scott said. "When these children grow up, they will always remember the Bermudian soldiers who came to Grenada to help them."

The Premier met with 300 primary school students who expressed their gratitude for their new classrooms.

The visit to Grenada by the Premier and the Bermuda Regiment has been well covered in the Grenadine television news.

Twelve soldiers from the East of England Regiment sent detachments to Grenada as well.

The East of England Regiment is the Territorial Army battalion affiliated with the Royal Anglican Regiment, with whom the Bermuda Regiment has had a long association.

The Bermuda Fire Service attached two of their Emergency Medical Teams to Operation Spice Relief when 173 Bermuda Regiment soldiers headed to Grenada on February 19.

Operation Spice Relief will officially end tomorrow when the final chalk will arrive home.

For their labours soldiers have been given two days of rest and relaxation today and yesterday.

"I plan a hero's welcome for my men when they arrive back in Bermuda," Regiment Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Edward Lamb said.
