Probe launched into cycle accident

Motorists had to be diverted around the scene of an accident at the Arboretum in Devonshire involving two police officers and a suspected drunk driver Monday evening.

According to Police spokesman Dwayne Caines, two police officers were travelling east on Middle Road Devonshire on their motorcycles when a civilian on a motorbike in front made a sharp U-turn knocking the officers off their cycles.

But the police version of the accident is being disputed by the civilian driver, admitted Mr. Caines.

"At this point in time a formal investigation is going to be held and the appropriate decision will be made."

Mr. Caines said that Police was appealing for any witnesses to the accident to contact them

One of the officers was taken by ambulance to the King Edward Memorial Hospital but was later released having sustained no major injuries.

The bike rider, a 60 year old man, sustained cuts and bruises and was also taken to the hospital. Police arrested the rider on suspicion of impaired driving.
