Queen Mother's funeral today
Junior Minister of Legislative Affairs Michael Scott will be Bermuda's official representative at the funeral of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother today at Westminster Abbey.
More than 2,000 dignitaries including representatives of the British Armed Forces, foreign Heads of State and Government, UK parliamentarians and Governor Generals are expected to gather at 11.30 a.m. (7.30 a.m. Bermuda time) for the service which will be comprised of hymns, readings, prayers and choral music.
Sen. Scott left the Island for the funeral at the weekend.
After the service, the Queen Mother's coffin will be taken to St. George's Chapel, Windsor, for a private committal service where she will be interned beside King George VI in the King George VI Memorial Chapel.
The 101-year-old Queen Mother died peacefully in her sleep at the Royal Lodge on March 30.
A memorial service for her will be held at the Anglican Cathedral today at 12.30 p.m. It is set to include scriptural readings by Premier Jennifer Smith and Acting Governor Tim Gurney. The public are invited to attend.
There will be hymns and prayers for the Queen Mother and the Royal family as well as a short address by the Bishop of Bermuda, The Rt. Revd. Ewan Ratteray.
Flags on Bermuda's Government buildings, which have been at half mast since the Queen Mother's death, will remain at half mast until sundown today.
