Internet users can no longer enjoy the tunes of Mix 106 and VSB Gold after DeFontes Broadcasting pulled the plug on its website streaming.

But listeners should be patient as the company is yet to decide if the popular website feature is gone for good.

While he called the streaming "a marvellous entity", owner Kenny DeFontes told The Royal Gazette that providing the service, which was free of charge to listeners, was not economically viable.

Mr. DeFontes said while advertising opportunities were available on the site, few businesses actually purchased space.

"It has not been successful," he said. "It was costing a lot of money."

He added that equipment damaged by a lightning strike a couple of weeks ago also played a role in the discontinuation of the streaming.

But he added: "We've received over 100 e-mails concerning the situation. It's being reviewed."
