Quick action by Police leads to recovery of boat

The owner of a brand new boat stolen last Sunday is praising the Police for their quick action in recovering his vessel.

John DeWitt, an employee of Longtail Aviation, reported that his light grey Mercury Quicksilver inflatable was stolen from Stocks Harbour in St. David?s at 5 p.m.

Police received a tip from a member of the public who had spotted a man in Devonshire having difficulty in connecting fuel to the engine of the boat. When the Police received the tip they quickly moved to recover the boat which was found in Devonshire Bay.

Yesterday, Mr. Dewitt extended high praise for the officers chiefly responsible for the recovery of the boat, P.c. Travis Powell and P.c. Ian McMillan.

?I just can?t believe my boat was recovered so quickly in the condition it was received. I highly commend public spirited citizens and the extraordinary Police work in recovering the boat. They deserve credit for a job well done,? Mr. DeWitt said. ?I feel the Police had great co-operation from all boat yards around in the community.?

The suspect who was seen attempted to connect fuel to the engine of the boat has not been apprehended.
