Report: Bermuda officials to help out in probe of cruise ship fire

The Associated Press reported that Bermuda officials were going to Jamaica to assist with the investigation into the fire that broke out on the Star Princess cruise ship last week, but local safety investigators are not aware of the trip.

A fire broke out on the cruise ship on Thursday morning. Many rooms were charred from the blaze. The fire resulted in one death, a man who died of cardiac arrest. Two other passengers received significant smoke inhalation injuries and nine passengers suffered minor complications resulting from smoke inhalation. The Star Princess is registered in Bermuda and it was reported on Friday that an official from Bermuda was expected to arrive in Montego Bay, Jamaica on Thursday evening along with representatives of the British government and US Coast Guard. The report stated that the Bermuda and UK representatives would assist the US Coast Guard and Princess investigating team. Neither the Bermuda Fire Department nor the Bermuda Police Service have heard of anyone going to assist the investigation.
