Roberts to run for Mayor?
Businessman Terry Roberts is considering running for Mayor of St. George's, he has said.
If he does win the top post he will be carrying on a family tradition. His grandfather Harry was Mayor, followed by his father Norman, who held the position for more than 20 years from the late 1960s.
Mr. Roberts told The Royal Gazette he had yet to make a decision but would make up his mind very shortly.
If he decides to run, he will go up against Town Crier E. Michael Jones, Alderman Mariea Caisey, and former Alderman Ross Smith in a four-way race.
Mr. Roberts is the owner of the Paradise Gift Shop in King's Square, St. George's.
Colonial Insurance employee Mr. Smith threw his hat into the ring on Tuesday with a pledge to bring more democracy to the Corporation of St. George's.
Mr. Jones - who was second to Mayor Henry Hayward in the election in 2000 - and Mrs. Caisey, had earlier announced they are running, with both pledging to abolish double taxation.
