Rush hour disruption

Rush hour commuters have been warned of Belco road works today at the junction of Harbour Road and Valley Road.

Belco spokeswoman Linda Smith said crews would be repairing an underground cable fault on Harbour Road between 9.30 a.m. and 10 p.m. There will be one lane of traffic open to motorists and traffic lights in place.

Mrs. Smith said the work would continue through rush hour in the evening and not come to a halt, despite past blockages of the roads in this area which have backed up cars for miles.

Motorists who will be on the road at this time are advised to use an alternative route if possible. Police will monitor the area.

The underground cable fault stemmed from the July 14 Belco fire. Belco has identified three other faults, all on older underground transmission cables, with none leading to loss of service to customers. Belco says all of them will be repaired.
