Sandys man fined for possession of drugs
A junior mechanic from Sandys was fined a total of $3,200 in Magistrates' Court earlier this week after he pleaded guilty to possession of heroin and cannabis resin.
Crown counsel Juan Wolffe told the court 27-year-old Tyrone Brooks was spotted by Police outside the Spinning Wheel nightclub at 9.16 p.m. on November 8 last year.
Observing that Brooks was acting very nervous, the Police searched him under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
They found 0.43 grams of heroin and 0.5 grams of cannabis resin secured underneath a black wristband he was wearing.
Three days later, on November 11, Brooks was again spotted by Police on Court Street. Looking at Police then walking away with his hands in his pockets, he was once more stopped and searched. "Well, you found it," he said as Police discovered more cannabis and cannabis resin in his pants pocket.
"A mere three days had elapsed," said Mr. Wolffe. "It is clear he had scant regard for what took place three days earlier."
Acting Magistrate Will Francis fined Brooks a total of $1,200 for the drug possessions, then a further $2,000 for being within the increased penalty zone of the Home School of Excellence both days.
