Santa Claus came to town on Sunday ? and gave hundreds of youngsters a reason to smile.

His visit helped make the Coalition for the Protection of Children's annual Christmas Party at its headquarters on Mount Hill Road, Pembroke, a huge success.

Chairman Sheelagh Cooper estimated that about 300 children attended the event and received a gift from Santa, as well as enjoying face painting, a fun castle and other activities.

"We had a fabulous party today, it was absolutely amazing," she said. "We have been doing it every year since 1992 and we have lots of space at our office, which is an old school.

"Kids come with their parents and a lot are in foster care. This is an opportunity for the mums whose children are in foster care to have fun with their kids. It was a big party and we had a great time."

Santa's gifts were collected this year from schools and businesses around the Island by Coldwell Banker real estate company.
