Six arrested in Front Street bar brawl
A bouncer was among six people arrested after 40 people were involved in fighting outside a Front Street bar on Saturday night.
At least 15 Police officers were needed to deal with the disturbance which had begun in Flanagan's Irish Bar and Restaurant at 11.10p.m. after a group of men were asked to leave the premises.It is understood that the argument escalated due to the manner in which security staff ejected the customers.
A Police spokesman said; “Upon Police arrival, they saw a large crowd in a general melee. It would appear that some men were asked to leave Flanagan's by the staff and an argument ensued resulting in a fight taking place.
“Officers from the Police Support Unit and other operational Police units were dispatched to the scene with six of the individuals being arrested. Court appearances can be expected in the near future.”
A spokesperson for Flanagan's confirmed that the a brawl had started in the Sports Bar.
“There was a fight and our security staff quelled it, as is their job, and escorted the people off the premises,” the spokesperson said.
“Once outside our bar they were then in the hands of the Police.”
It is understood that one of the protagonists threw a punch at a member of the security staff, leaving him with a black eye, before being physically removed from the bar by a bouncer.
The six people were arrested for a variety of offences including breach of the peace, affray and assault and some or all of them were expected to appear in Magistrates' Court today.
Although a street party for the World Rugby Classic was taking place on Bermudiana Road the same night, no rugby players were involved in this incident, Police confirmed.
