Spy plane inquiry

Airport officials are looking into claims a CIA airship landed in Bermuda, amid worldwide concerns over spy planes carrying terror suspects.

A Portuguese daily newspaper said a C-130 airship landed in Lajes Airport in the Azores on November 28, before leaving next day heading to Bermuda.

Bermuda International Airport last night said it was not aware of any CIA activity, but said it would look into the details reported in the Portuguese newspaper Diario de Noticias.

Several European countries have launched investigations into claims CIA plans have landed on runways in their cities.

Concerns have centred on reports some of the planes may have been carrying terrorist suspects, to be detained and interrogated in secret prisons in Eastern Europe.

The US has been under concerted pressure to confirm or deny the claims.
