St. George?s man charged in passenger?s death

A 24-year-old man appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday charged with drunk driving and reckless driving causing the death of a St. George's woman, in August.

The court heard that Checarlo Douglas, of Cove Valley, St. George's, whose charges are indictable, was charged with exceeding the legal alcohol limit of 80 millilitres of alcohol in a 100 millilitres of blood and was driving recklessly or in a dangerous manner that led to the death of Alshe Caisey on August 17.

Ms Caisey, who was 20 at the time of her death, was a pillion passenger on Douglas' bike when he lost control and crashed as he was driving on North Shore Road, in Smith's Parish.

Ms Caisey was Bermuda's ninth road fatality for 2003. Douglas was released on $5,000 bail.
