Stabbing accused charged with attempted murder

Awaiting trial: Detectives lead Lorenzo Robinson to Magistrates' Court during an earlier appearence.

The man accused of the daylight stabbing of a tourist on Front Street had the charge amended to the more serious offence of attempted murder when he appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Lorenzo Robinson, pictured right, had initially been charged with assaulting Scott Jable from Illinois on October 28 with intent to do him grievous bodily harm, but yesterday the Crown changed the charge to attempted murder.

Robinson, 24, of no fixed abode, did not appear in court but was informed of the change during a video link to Westgate Correctional Facility where he is being remanded in custody.

Crown counsel Cindy Clarke told the court: "We have had further medical evidence and we want to amend count three to attempted murder."

Robinson has already pleaded guilty to stealing a pocket knife and a ring on October 28.
