Stamps mark Belco?s 100th birthday
To celebrate the Bermuda Electric Light Company?s 100th anniversary four new stamps were issued on Friday.
Last week, the Bermuda Philatelic Bureau and Belco announced the stamps would depict current operations by the company. There will also be a First Day Cover liner copy of the stamps available for purchase at post offices. The stamps are the first commemorative series issued in 2006.
They depict four aspects of Belco: delivering energy, people and equipment, supplying power and the company?s local commitment.
The images were taken by one of Belco?s electrical engineers, Abayomi Carmichael. He used a high-end infrared camera, which is often used by engineers while they inspect electrical and mechanical equipment. The next issue of commemorative stamps will be released in April to mark the Queen?s 80th birthday.
