Student working in China picks up scholarship
A Bermudian student working in China teaching English to doctors and basic skills to children with severe autism has been awarded the Dudley and Deborah Butterfield Scholarship 2005.
Steven Campbell, a graduate of Saltus Grammar School and Trinity College School in Ontario, Canada, will use the scholarship he received to continue his studies at McGill University in Montreal. He is studying for a Bachelor of Science Degree and wants to pursue a career in medicine.
While at TCS, Mr. Campbell excelled academically and consistently maintained a place on the Dean's List. A keen squash player, he also enjoyed singing as a member of TCS's jazz ensemble, earning a bronze medal in the Canadian Vocal Jazz Nationals.
Over the past summer, Campbell has been in China working in a hospital teaching English to doctors and basic skills to children with severe cases of autism or mental retardation.
Mr. Campbell has also made his contributions felt in Bermuda with work at Westmeath as well as charitable fundraising.
The McGill Bermuda Scholarship Trust was established in Bermuda in 1988 as a result of a donation from Mr. and Mrs. Butterfield, together with the collective contributions of many McGill graduates in Bermuda.
The Trust offers the Dudley and Deborah Butterfield Scholarship and the McGill Bermuda Scholarship in alternate years.
Each scholarship is tenable for up to four years of study in a degree programme at McGill University.
