Team helps save valuable documents

A disaster team that worked on saving files that were water damaged at the Pentagon after 9/11 is on the Island to offer assistance to companies suffering water damage.

The moisture control company currently provides an anti-mould, dehumidifying system for the Bermuda Archives for eight years.

Munters Corporation staff flew in on the first flight after Hurricane Fabian, on Tuesday, to see what they could do to help companies who had water damage or flooding return to doing business within a few days.

The system allows companies to remain open or to reopen within a few days said Jim Packard, who is Munters Corporation's water damage recovery regional sales manager.

Mr. Packard said they can dry anything that needs to be dried, including preserving computer equipment, furniture, water extracting, debris removal, structure and contents cleaning, fire damage, smoke and odour abatement, mould remediation and air scrubbing.

Air Care Limited, who has worked with Munters Corporation for eight years, sought their help for businesses suffering water related damages.

So far they have been to the hospital to deal with the human resource's department records, to a building which lost their roof and extensive flooding, and to the Sonesta Beach Hotel.

Munsters' Bob Harrison said that when they saw Hurricane Fabian heading for Bermuda they knew that what to expect from a category three hurricane.

"We immediately contacted Air Care and booked senior members of our disaster team on the next flight to Bermuda," said Mr. Harrison.

"So far, the building structural damages we have witnessed are consistent with what we anticipated following a storm of the magnitude - and we are well equipped and readily available to assist the Bermuda business community."

Robert Platt general manager of Air Care Ltd. said that he found their equipment to be top of the line.

"We installed a system at the Bermuda Archives and eight years later have yet to experience a breakdown," said Mr. Platt.
