Two teens were remanded in custody yesterday after being charged with a brutal weekend robbery.

Kenneth Caines, 18, of Curving Avenue, Pembroke, was charged with one count of robbery, one count of possession of an offensive weapon - a machete - and two counts of causing grievous bodily harm and unlawful wounding.

Ryan Sydney Burgess, 16, of Frog Lane, Devonshire, was charged with one count of robbery.

In Magistrates' Court yesterday Crown counsel Wayne Caines alleged that the two teens followed Marlon Rewan from the Captain's Lounge bar on Reid Street on Friday night, beat him unconscious, and robbed him of $3,000 worth of money and jewellery, as well as an ATM card.

At about 1 p.m. on the following day, the Crown claims, two brothers of the victim, Steven and Devon Rewan, clashed with Caines at a house on Devon Lane, Devonshire. A fight broke out and both brothers received machete injuries.

By the time Police arrived at the scene about ten people were involved in the violence, which also attracted a large number of spectators from the nearby Devonshire Recreational Club.

"One of the victims has a 3.2-inch stab wound to the head," Mr. Caines said.

The accused were not required to enter a plea, as the matters are indictable will be heard in the Supreme Court.

Neither teen has previous convictions.

Defence lawyer Darrell Clarke is representing both teenagers.

Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves remanded both teens in custody until December 7 when they will appear in Magistrates' Court again for mention.
