Three injured in shooting

A Police Forensic Support Unit officer process the scene outside Spinning wheel night club after an early morning shooting that put three people into hospital with gunshot wounds

Police are hunting a gunman who shot three people in the Swinging Doors night-club in Court Street in the early hours of Monday.

A 26-year-old woman and two men aged 21 and 30, all from Pembroke, needed surgery for gun wounds to their lower body after the shocking attack in the bar just after 2.30 a.m.

Scant detail was available at a mid-morning press conference with Police unable to say what calibre of weapon was used or how many shots were fired until Scenes of Crime officers had completed their task.

Superintendent Sinclair White said: "This is a highly unusual event in Bermuda and this has the highest attention within the service."

Supt. White said one individual was shot several times while the other two had single bullet injuries. The wounds are not believed to be life threatening.

Police don't yet have a motive for the attack and they were unable to say whether it was gang related or release details about the gunman's getaway.

Chief Inspector Andrew Boyce, who led the probe into the murder of the Cooper twins, is heading the investigation involving experienced officers from the Serious Crime Unit, the Criminal Investigation Unit, the Forensic Support Unit (FSU) and other units.

People with information are urged to contact the Serious Crime Unite on 299 4315 or call the confidential Crimestoppers number 1 800 623 847.
