Trial date next month for alleged baby killers

A couple accused of killing their baby more than two years ago will finally be given a trial date next month.

Amenemhat Waset Aen-Ra Tamerry, 47, and Maatkai Hatsheput Tamerry, 35, formerly Dr. Clark Godwin and Regina Woods, are accused of killing their daughter A-Mya between May 1, 2000 and March 1, 2001.

The couple appeared at yesterday's arraignments session without representation.

Crown counsel Vinette Graham-Allen said she had experienced enormous difficulty in contacting the couple's lawyer Christine Hoskins.

Lawyer Mark Pettingill said he believed Ms Hoskins would withdraw from the case.

Acting Chief Justice Norma Wade-Miller warned the couple the matter needed to be dealt with having dragged on for a long time.

She said: “On November 3 a trial date will be set, please try to put your house in order.”

Murder accused George (Messy) McDonald Liburd, 30, of Pembroke, will stand trial on February 3 next year. He denies killing mother-of-three Chena Danette Trott, 32, at the Esso TigerMarket on Crawl Hill in Hamilton Parish, on August 9, 2002.

Justis Smith faces sentence on Monday for stabbing Shanae Outerbridge in Dockyard last February. Smith, 25, will also be sentenced for assault causing actual bodily harm for punching Hanifah Taalibdin and for possessing an offensive weapon.

Three new cases emerged yesterday. Isaac Jerith Griffiths, 18, Aerial View Road, Devonshire pleaded not guilty to robbery with violence of a motor bike from Henry James Tucker on June 26 while Ishmael Greg Makaya Lightbourne, 23, of Green Acres, Devonshire, who was jointly charged, pleaded guilty.

The pair will reappear at next month's arraignments session.

Collin Leanard Whitehead Hendrickson, 47, of Dundonald Street, will reappear at the December session after pleading not guilty to unlawful wounding and possession of an offensive weapon.
