TV celebrity at Frith?s festive auction and fair

Suzie Pewter, chairwoman of the Neverland Foundation and James Rylands, auctioneer and TV personality and antiques expert, put finishing touches to some of the items at the Christmas fair and charity auction at Frith's Warehouse, Front Street this weekend.

If you need convincing that Christmas is just around the corner get along to Frith?s Warehouse on Front Street this weekend for a giant Christmas fair and charity auction that will feature British TV celebrity auctioneer James Rylands.

The warehouse space has been transformed into what has been described as a Christmas wonderland by one of the organisers Suzie Pewter.

And unusual and unique gifts have been brought over from North America to be purchased as part of the Christmas Fair by those looking for presents that will not been seen elsewhere on the Island.

Antique and contemporary furniture lit by candles and fairylights have been arranged in room settings, including everything from paintings and mirrors to bedroom suites to give buyers and viewers a more interesting experience when they visit the warehouse.

The fair is on Friday and Saturday, while the auction starts on Sunday and will feature small items likely to sell at a few dollars to bigger price tag goodies, including rare Bermuda antique furniture and Bermuda paintings by the likes of Bruce Stuart, Birdsey, Desmond Fountain and Karl Struss.

The sale and auction are raising money for two children?s charities on the Island, the Neverland Foundation for youngsters born with HIV or AIDS and the Bermuda National Gallery?s ARTREACH educational programme to contribute directly to the artistic development of Bermuda?s children.

?The auction is detailed and indepth, but James is also hilarious and entertaining. Some people think auctions are too expensive but we have things from $3 to $3,000,? said Suzie Pewter, of Whitfield Events.

?The room settings are spectacular. You have to see what has been done to an old warehouse, it really will get people into the Christmas spirit.? Sotheby?s auction house consultant and BBC TV?s Antiques Roadshow expert Mr. Rylands said: ?There is something here for everyone. We are incredibly lucky to have been granted permission to sue such an amazing space and I want to put on record my sincerest gratitude to William Frith.

?The diversity of objects is incredible and it gives me great pleasure to be raising money for two such worthwhile charities.?

Sylvia Ryan, Neverland Foundation administrator, said: ?The Christmas season is one of our busiest times of the year where we buy gifts for our Neverland children ? the donations from this event could not have come at a better time.?

The Christmas fair will be open this Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Frith Warehouse at 57 Front Street. The auction on Sunday begins at 1 p.m. until completion.
