Two arrested in connection with fatal shooting

Two men have been arrested by detectives investigating the murder of teenager Jason Lightbourne ? the 18-year-old gunned down on Ord Road last weekend.

Police confirmed the arrests in the high-profile murder hunt in a brief statement yesterday.

It said that the pair were in custody ?assisting Police with their investigation? into Mr. Lightbourne?s murder. No further details were provided.

A spokesman last night refused to give the ages of the two men, or the parishes where they lived ? information normally provided by Police to the media when an arrest is made.

?In this particular case, at this point, we have chosen not to reveal that,? he told . ?We can?t say any more at this point in time.?

The scale of the development remained unclear last night as the spokesman also said he could not comment when asked if the men had been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Nobody had been charged at press time last night, when the Police spokesman also confirmed the two men were still in custody.

Mr. Lightbourne was gunned down while at the wheel of a car on Ord Road, Paget in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Meanwhile, detectives are still appealing for witnesses to the murder to come forward, particularly anyone who was in the Ord Road and Sylvan Dell Road area of Paget between 3.30 and 4.30 a.m. last Sunday.

Anyone with information should call the Serious Crime Unit on 299-4315 or the confidential Crime Stoppers number, 1-800-623-8477.

Nearly 30 officers are involved in the case. And Police last night thanked the public for their help so far, especially residents in the Ord Road community. The statement added: ?We encourage any individuals who may have information that can assist the investigation to make contact with Police.?reported last week how Police mounted two armed raids on Pembroke addresses following leads in the murder case, but came up empty handed. It was understood the swoops targeted addresses in Glebe Road and Berkeley Road. No arrests were made.

Meanwhile, the victim of a machete attack on Frog Lane, Devonshire ? named locally as Stefan Burgess ? was still in hospital yesterday. He was said to be in a ?stable? condition on a general ward last night.

King Edward VII Memorial Hospital confirmed the condition of Mr. Burgess, 19, who suffered serious cuts to his head and body in the bladed weapon attack near his home less than two hours before Mr. Lightbourne was shot.
