VSB viewers lodge complaints

Complaints have been made to the Broadcast Commission after DeFontes Broadcasting showed several Saturday night films some viewers found offensive.

According to a ZBM news report, the station aired movies over the weekend which were unedited and did not have swear words cut out. The evening news report stated that calls of complaint were made to station manager Mike Bishop and owner Kenny DeFontes.

VSB is showing a series of movies after rival company Bermuda Broadcasting Company gained exclusive rights to broadcast the Olympics, shown through NBC, the overseas affiliate of VSB.

Last night, Mr. Bishop said the movies were shown on Saturday night but a disclaimer was run before the movies to warn viewers of the movie contents. He said the movies - ‘Passenger 57' featuring Wesley Snipes, and ‘The Dead Pool' with Clint Eastwood - were shown after 9 p.m.

Mr. Bishop said he received a phone call from a viewer upset with both the language and content of the film. He said the station had not received complaint calls directly.
