Warwick man jailed for carrying stun gun

A Warwick man found with an electric stun gun in his car claimed that he had discovered the weapon outside a night club and never intended to use it.

Kenneth Durrant, 21, of Ord Road, Warwick, entered a guilty plea to weapons possession in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

The court heard that Police officers stopped Durrant at the Ice Queen in Paget at 2.27 a.m. on May 17. A Panther 326 500 volt stun gun was found in the arm rest in the back of his vehicle.

Crown counsel Oonagh Vaucrosson told the court the gun can cause severe injury and even death.

Senior Magistrate Archie Warner ordered Durrant to spend 12 months in prison. He was also fined $200 for speeding and not having a valid drivers' licence.
