Washington to celebrate Easter with Island flair
Bermudians living in Washington, D.C. and residents in the capital will be able to get a taste of Island culture on Good Friday as the Tourism Department stages a traditional Bermuda Easter celebration.
Traditional kite flying, cricket, and fish cakes will be on offer as Tourism puts on a show for homesick Bermudians and Americans curious about Easter Bermuda-style.
The department, which opened in the capital last summer, has sent out invites to Bermudian students at George Washington and Howard universities, and to Islanders living in the capital.
Tourism officials are hoping Americans will also come along to find out how the Island celebrates Good Friday.
Invites have been sent out to media organisations in Washington to generate valuable publicity for the event, which is taking place at the Takoma Recreation Centre.
The department, which has three staff, is catering for about 100 people, and is offering a prize draw for visitors of a free flight and hotel accommodation to Bermuda.
Glenn Bean, regional sales manager in the Washington office, said: "We are hoping to make this first annual Bermuda Good Friday event as traditional and as meaningful to Bermudians who are here in the US as it is at home".
