Webb walks in on altercation
A woman had a glass shoved in her face in the Fairmont Southampton Hotel after the Jose Carreras concert last Friday night.
The attack took place after the 46-year-victim and two younger women were involved in a heated row in the bathroom.
The Royal Gazette has learned that Tourism Minister Renee Webb walked in on the shouting match in the bathroom and tried to calm the two parties down.
But later on at 12.30 p.m., one woman walked up to the victim in the wine bar of the hotel and shoved a glass in her face, causing minor cuts to her nose.
A Police spokesman said yesterday: "There was an altercation in the bathroom between the 46-year-old victim and two younger women and some comments were made.
"The Tourism Minister Renee Webb was there, simply because she and another woman walked into the bathroom and came across the heated argument and tried to defuse the situation as best they could to separate the parties.
"Ms Webb did what any concerned citizen would have done which is simply to try to be an intermediary between the conflicting individuals."
The Royal Gazettehas been told that the victim may have made disparaging remarks to the younger women in the bathroom.
The victim was given medical treatment by firefighters at the hotel and no arrests have been made.
