Woman charged with boyfriend?s murder
There was a heavy police presence in Magistrates Court yesterday, as 25-year old Adrena Smith was charged with the murder of her 38-year-old boyfriend.
Smith, wearing a white shirt and black pants was not required to enter a plea to the indictable offence, as her case will be heard in the Supreme Court.
As reported first on website yesterday, she is accused of murdering Edward Dill on Monday, October 16, at the home they shared in Cedar Park, Devonshire.
The mother of two sat quietly during the 35-minute court proceedings, her eyes occasionally drifted to the public gallery where her family and friends sat.
Several of them wept quietly as they waited for the court to determine the defendant?s fate.
Acting Magistrate Ed Bailey, after hearing lengthy legal arguments released the mother-of-two on $10,000 bail with two sureties.
Smith was ordered to surrender her travel documents and to report daily to the Hamilton Police Station between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Family and friends of Mr. Dill were clearly upset that Smith was granted bail and verbally expressed their displeasure outside the court. One woman was so distraught that she fell to her knees in tears and had to be comforted by friends.
Smith will next appear in court on October 31, for mention.
Crown Counsel Cindy Clark is prosecuting the case. Charles Richardson is representing Smith. Police inquiries into the fatal stabbing continue.
