Woman to sue psychic
A Bermuda woman who claims she gave $1.1 million to a psychic in a bid to get cleansed of her personal problems is suing the Florida businesswoman.
Veronica Boys has joined a number of other people in suing psychic Linda Marks, who operates out of The Psychic Shop in Delray Beach, near Palm Beach.
They claimed they paid between $2,000 and $1.1 million for "spiritual cleansings" and have filed a writ alleging they were victims of fraud.
The lawsuit, filed in Palm Beach County Circuit Court also names the city of Delray Beach as a conspirator for allowing Ms Marks to operate the business.
The lawsuit claims the psychic had a "licence to steal" because the city renewed her business licence year after year and that city Police failed to arrest her for defrauding clients.
Ms Boys claimed she gave Ms Marks $1.1 million to cleanse her of personal problems, and said that when her husband learned of the missing money, he left her.
Ms Marks has been the subject of several complaints to Police, but officers said her violations were civil, not criminal, because her victims entered her business in search of her services.
The writ, filed by Boca Raton attorney Barry Silver, claims the city ignored complaints because it did not want to tarnish its image as an "All-American City."
Also named in the lawsuit is the psychic's husband, James; Samuel Grossman, identified as her landlord; Police officer Jack Makler; and several family members.
The Royal Gazette was unable to reach Ms Boys last night.
