?Wonderful experience? for Zanol

Giorgio Zanol has raised nearly $40,000 for the UK?s Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation when after completing his 39th marathon in London yesterday.

The 63 year old completed the London Marathon in three hours and 38 minutes.

?I had a wonderful experience running through the historic city of London,? Mr. Zanol said yesterday. ?The crowd was very supportive, cheering and shouting for all the runners.?

Mr. Zanol admitted struggling around the 20th mile, but was cheered by the sight of Buckingham Palace near the finish line.

?The only thing that spurred me on was David Saul?s offer of an extra $500 if I beat three hours and 45 minutes,? he said. ?I am now looking forward to a very relaxing holiday in Italy where I will consider where I want to run my 40th marathon.?

Mr. Zanol, who is president of the Lindo?s group of companies, raised $39,912.28 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

The Argus Group assisted Mr. Zanol with his fund-raising and also donated $10,000 to the Bermuda Diabetes Association.
