World Cup turmoil
Island soccer fans may be denied a chance to watch their heroes in World Cup action as a bed shortage has thrown next week?s tie at the National Sports Centre into doubt.
Bermuda take on El Salvador tomorrow in San Salvador but the Central Americans are claiming next week?s return leg will now be played in the US ? either Miami or Los Angeles ? because it is too late to change the dates.
Officials from the El Salvador Football Federation confirmed they had been unable to book accommodation for their squad, due to arrive in midweek. And they had been advised by soccer?s regional governing body CONCACAF that unless the BFA could secure sufficient hotel beds the match venue would have to be changed.
Bermuda Football Association president Larry Mussenden confirmed next week?s game has been postponed but was adamant it would instead take place on July 9, and not away from home turf as the El Salvador coach Juan Ramon Paredes has claimed.
CONCACAF have reportedly advised both countries that the date of the second leg match cannot be moved.
Mr. Mussenden said BFA officials would be discussing the matter with FIFA ? the sport?s world governing body ? and a decision would be made today.
