Your chance to snap up an Obama painting
WHILE the lucky few travel to Washingon, DC for Barack Obama's presidential inauguration next week, people in Bermuda can still be part of the celebrations and even take home a one-of-a-kind painting (see picture below) of the 44th President of the United States.
On Tuesday, Gallery 135, located at the corner of King and Front Streets, is set to hold a soirée featuring live music, food and silent auction of 12 original Barack Obama oil paintings. G-135's core offerings, including products from more than 30 local vendors, will also be featured.
Inspired by Bermudian businesswoman Lynelle Frith-Inusah, managing director of Ama Afrique Designs, who now lives in Ghana, the Obama paintings evoke the spirit of the historic occasion for both the US and Bermuda.
Part proceeds of the silent auction and other retail and bar sales will be donated to Agape House and The Golden Hearts Foundation, which is based in Ghana.
"We are hosting it will be a cocktail party in celebration of the January 20 Inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama on that day," said Keerome Maybury of G-135. "There will be great eats, bar and even beverages for the non-drinkers.
"There will be an amazing line-up of live entertainment include G-135 Resident band BZR (Bizarre) who recently jammed with Bob Marley's Wailers Band for a video shoot," he added.
"G-135 Resident DJ C-Cyde will also be there along with Joy Barnum, Mia Page Chambray & the Mohawk Radio Band and surprise guest artists."
