$500 fine for threatening girlfriend with cricket bat
A St. George's man who admitted to attacking his girlfriend with a cricket bat earlier this month has been fined $500.
Desmond Crockwell, of Bay Estates Road, was charged with unlawfully wounding his girlfriend whom he shared an apartment and child with.
The court heard from crown counsel Paula Tyndale on October 10, the complainant and his girlfriend had a verbal dispute before they left the residence on March 16.
When they returned, another argument ensued outside the house.
Crockwell took the complainant's keys, opened the door of the apartment, took their child and locked the complainant outside.
Ms Tyndale said the complainant knocked on the door persistently but the 29-year old would not let her in.
She went around the side of the house to the bedroom window and tried to climb in but Crockwell gripped her arm causing her pain.
He then grabbed a cricket bat and hit her in the right eye causing the complainant to bleed.
The complainant ran upstairs to Crockwell's family for help.
The following day, she reported the incident at the Police Station and the defendant was arrested.
Crockwell told the court: "It was an accident. I want to deal with it and move on".
He explained he locked himself inside the apartment to avoid a fight.
After reading the Social Inquiry Report he had ordered, Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner sentenced Crockwell to 100 hours of community service at the direction of Court Services and gave him a $500 fine.
