Birthday celebrant arrested after accident
A driver was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after a crash which left two people — including his father — needing hospital treatment.
The 47-year-old Warwick driver, who was celebrating his birthday, walked away unhurt from the accident at the junction of Harrington SoundRoad and Wilkinson Avenue, in Hamilton Parish, on Saturday at 5.55 p.m.
His car, which was travelling west along Wilkinson Avenue, was in collision with a car going in the opposite direction, before going over an embankment and landing just feet from the water.
The driver's 69-year-old father, from St. George's, had to be cut out of the vehicle by Bermuda Fire Service, before being taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital with chest and back injuries. He remained in care yesterday.
The driver of the other vehicle, a 34-year-old Warwick woman, was taken to hospital with minor neck and back injuries before being released.
Police, who arrested the Warwick man at the scene, are urging witnesses to call P.c. Joseph at Southside Police Station on 293-2222.
