Gun on the move
Addax Holdings Ltd. representative E. Michael Jones, former Premier and St. George’s North MP Dame Jennifer Smith and Works Minister Derrick Burgess take a close look at the historic gun which will be relocated from Fort Victoria in St. George’s to a new location at the Royal Naval Dockyard.
The relocation of the British Army 9.2 inch breech loader – one of just nine still in existence in the world – is being funded by Addax Holdings, the company headed by Carl Bazarian which
is redeveloping the former Club Med property.
The former British Army battery, weighing approximately 128 tons, will be dismantled by a team led by Dr. Edward Harris, executive director of the Bermuda Maritime Museum, and reassembled close to the entrance of Dockyard on the lower level of the land front southwest of Casemates Barracks.
The project will take several weeks to complete and will draw on local and international expertise to ensure that the historic weaponry is properly reinstated in the West End.
