Harbourview sketches released

This is a computer generated rendering of what the planned Bank of Bermuda/HSBC building will look like.

Here is an impression of how the new Bank of Bermuda office building to replace the former Trimingham’s department store should look once it is completed.

Standing six-storeys with the uppermost three storeys tiered backwards from Front Street.

The building’s Front Street facade has been designed to replicate closely the historical design of other frontages along the street.

All traces of the Trimingham’s store will be lost by the complete demolition of the department store, which has been a feature of Front Street for more than 150 years.

The Bank of Bermuda plans have undergone a number of alterations after repeated rejection by the Development Applications Board over the past year, most notably the reduction in size from seven storeys to six.

The new building will feature a Bank of Bermuda retail outlet on the ground floor and two shops, one on Front Street and one on Reid Street.

From Reid Street the building will appear five storeys tall.

Bank of Bermuda CEO Philip Butterfield expects work on the new building, which is to be known as Harbourview, to start within the next month.
