Bermuda could have its own celebrity chef soon.

Island resident Ian Friedman, who was an executive chef at Cafe Cairo and Barracuda Grill, is currently in the final stage of interviews for Gordon Ramsay's FOX TV reality show "Hell's Kitchen".

But he is also working on his own cooking show aimed at men. He has already shot the pilot of "Bachelor Pad" with business partner Scott Krol and they are shopping it to TV channels such as Bravo, Fox, Food Network and Spike TV.

Mr. Friedman said: "We wanted to create a show that was more than just cooking.

"This is a situational cooking show, we are teaching men what to do when they have to entertain. We think there aren't any cooking shows that appeal to men, ours includes business tips, sports, cars and technology and women.

"We teach them how to make an impressive meal the morning after, when the in-laws visit. A key theme of the show is that with the right kind of entertainment any man can win a woman. But we also teach them how to host a Superbowl party

Mr. Friedman grew up in New York and later went to the Culinary Institute of America.

"I have been in the business for over 20 years and I have done everything from cater movie sets to presidential inauguration balls," he said."I worked in one of the best restaurants in Philadelphia and Washington D.C. before I came here.

"I came to Bermuda because my wife works for an exempt company and her division was transferred here. We have been living here for almost six years and we love it, although we have had some difficult times."

He added that already people are impressed with the show and the concept and that he is optimistic about it being picked up and hopes it will be on air by the fall of 2008.

He was previously involved in East Meets West, in the Bermudiana Arcade, and also worked for Barracuda Grill before working at Café Cairo.

He hopes that along with a successful TV career he would be able to open a restaurant in Bermuda.
