Towering above the Hamilton sky line for just one day were the five masts of the graceful Club Med 2 yacht.

The white yacht which is 542 feet long and includes two restaurants, a nautical hall for sport enthusiasts and 190 cabins is part of the Club Med Resorts.

Founded in 1950, the French company has more than 100 properties around the world, some catering to families, and others to couples.

As competition increased in the 1990s among vacation offerings the Club Med brand needed to expand and among other attempts including budget resorts, in 1992 the Club Med 2 yacht was launched in Le Havre, France.

Its regular route includes criss-crossing the waters of the Caribbean during the winter months and the Mediterranean and Adriatic seas in the summer.

Those towering masts carry more than 3,000 square feet of white sails, which are deployed automatically by computer control.

Manning the deck along with the other amenities on board, is the 200 crew, which is needed for the deck which is polished teak and the railings of shining brass.

It can comfortably take on about 392 passengers who will each have a port hole looking out to sea and cabins which are air-conditioned, have satellite phone and mini-refrigerators among other creature comforts.

One of the suites, the Shipowner's Suite, has a lounge and private library and is located at the bow of the boat.

The yacht was boarded by a pilot to enter Hamilton Harbour around 6.30 a.m. yesterday and left Bermuda at 6 p.m. yesterday evening.

That's part of the charm of the boat, which sails at night and makes a new stop each morning so the passengers can experience a new place each day.
