Man handcuffed to police bike
A 22-year-old man was fined $1,300 and banned from driving for 12 months after being found guilty of drink driving, failing to stop for Police and violently resisting arrest.
Davon Daniels, of Lily Park lane, Cut Road, St. George's, appeared at Supreme Court on Friday where Crown counsel Nicole Smith said that on August 20, 2007, Police were on patrol on Middle Road when they spotted Daniels and a passenger on a motorcycle making a U-turn.
They instructed him to pull over, but Daniels turned onto Harbour Road and gave Police a high-speed chase which continued on toward Camp Hill when Daniels and the passenger fell off the bike. Police then attempted to stop the two but the passenger escaped and the officers and Daniels got into a violent scuffle which caused minor injuries to one officer's knee.
Eventually Police were able to apprehend Daniels by handcuffing his wrist to the Police motorbike. Daniels was taken to the Police station and asked to give a breath test.
His breath sample read 160 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood – twice the legal limit.
"I'm very sorry and I'd like to apologise to the public. I made a big mistake and I'll never do it again," he told Puisne Judge Charles-Etta Simmons, who sentenced him to 12 months probation, including rehabilitation, and a 10 p.m. curfew for six months, in addition to the fine and driving ban.
